About Masters of Scale

Since its launch in 2017, Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman has grown into a vital listen for business leaders, thanks to its groundbreaking format. In each episode, LinkedIn co-founder and Greylock partner Reid Hoffman demonstrates how companies grow from zero to a gazillion, testing his theories with legendary guests. Guests have included Spotify’s Daniel Ek, Airbnb’s Brian Chesky, Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard, Warby Parker’s Neil Blumenthal & Dave Gilboa, Netflix’s Reed Hastings, POTUS Barack Obama, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Starbucks’ Howard Schultz, Spanx’s Sara Blakely and Canva’s Melanie Perkins, among many others.

The Role

WaitWhat is looking for an experienced and intellectually curious executive producer to join our team and oversee the Masters of Scale platform, including podcast and video content.

Ideal candidates have a deep background covering business and/or technology, with a particular love for stories of startups and innovation. You’ll have a strong background in audio, as well as experience in other media. You have been hands on in leading teams, both in editorial and production. You know how to craft a great story and build key takeaways that listeners can integrate into their own business. You love creating high quality, genre-defining content that doesn’t just follow a formula. And, of course, you have a sense of humor.

You are also a grounded, collaborative team player, with the ability to strategically assess risks and opportunities. You influence colleagues through trust and constructive criticism. You are a good business partner with the EQ and communication skills to balance creativity with data-informed decision making. You love to win, solve problems, and get your hands dirty. You’re a lifelong learner and when you don’t know something, you say so, and then go figure it out. You speak plainly, you genuinely care about your collaborators, and you are a good human. Oh, and did we mention the thing about sense of humor?

As EP, you’ll lead a very strong, extraordinarily committed, talented, and purpose-driven team. Building out your core team and understanding the skill sets that are needed, is job number one. If you’re eager to help develop genre-defining media/technology properties and be part of a low-ego, high-collaboration startup environment, this opportunity could be perfect for you.

Responsibilities

The Executive Producer will be responsible for championing the successful execution and growth of the Masters of Scale podcast and video platform including:

  • Own crafting of Masters of Scale episodes: from a gripping cold open to a suspenseful storyline that expertly weaves together narration from the host and clips from the guests. Similarly, review scripts from writers, provide notes and steer the editorial direction of the show
  • Own story elements — whether it’s unexpected guests, original reporting, creative sound design or music — anything that pushes the creative boundaries of the show
  • Oversee the curation of guests: both the well-known entrepreneurs we feature as “anchor” guests and the “cameo” guests who add color, depth and delight to each episode
  • Manage end to end show budgets for on time, on cost delivery of the series.
  • Lead in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs to uncover unexpected gems and lead host recording sessions
  • Identify, source and build deep meaningful relationships with secondary hosts
  • Contribute creative insight-driven ads in conjunction with the host and show advertisers
  • Jointly develop and own series listenership goals and support audience engagement tactics, including social media outreach, email newsletters and engagement in online communities.
  • Build, inspire, and lead a high-performing, joyful team of writers and producers
  • Support the extension of Masters of Scale into other media
  • Contribute creatively to other editorial initiatives within WaitWhat
